As part of ongoing efforts to attract foreign direct investment into Ghana and strengthen the capacity of local artisans in the tiling industry, H.E. Ms Theresa Adjei-Mensah, Ghana's Ambassador to the Czech Republic, paid a working visit to RAKO Brand, LASSELSBERGER, s.r.o., in Pilsen on 5th February 2026.
The Head of Mission was warmly received by the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Jiri Malkus, along with senior officials, including Mr Mark Loula, Sales Manager, and Mr Jan Vanek of the Sales Department.
In his welcome remarks, Mr Malkus noted that LASSELSBERGER, s.r.o. is the only manufacturer of ceramic wall and floor tiles in the Czech Republic and currently the sixth largest producer of flooring materials in Europe. He highlighted that the company has successfully preserved and developed the renowned Czech RAKO brand for over 140 years. He further indicated that RAKO products are exported to more than 90 countries worldwide and consistently meet internationally recognised standards of quality.
Mr Malkus also emphasised that approximately 96 per cent of the raw materials used in RAKO products are domestically sourced and of natural origin, produced through the application of modern and environmentally responsible technologies.
In her response, Ambassador Theresa Adjei-Mensah expressed profound appreciation for the warm reception and insightful engagement with the management of LASSELSBERGER, s.r.o. She underscored Ghana's strategic position as a gateway to the West African sub-region. She highlighted the country's pivotal role as host of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). According to her, this unique positioning makes Ghana an attractive and reliable partner for Czech companies seeking access to Africa's vast and rapidly expanding market.
The Ambassador further appealed for the support of RAKO experts in providing technical training for Ghanaian artisans in the tiling industry, as part of Ghana's broader agenda to build local capacity and enhance skills development. She also outlined the range of tax incentives and investment-friendly policies available in Ghana to encourage foreign direct investment.
Following the discussions, the Head of Mission was invited to tour the company's showroom, where she inspected the impressive range and quality of RAKO tile products.
At the conclusion of the meeting, RAKO expressed a strong interest in exploring business and investment opportunities in Ghana's tiles industry. In view of Ghana's stable economy and the prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation, the two sides agreed on the following next steps:
- Organising training programmes for Ghanaian artisans in the tiling industry
- Establishing partnerships with tile suppliers in Ghana;
- Collaborating with the Government of Ghana on projects such as the tiling of schools, hospitals, and public offices; and
- Exploring the establishment of a manufacturing hub in Ghana.
